Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Academy Trust

St. Bernard’s Catholic Primary School is one of seven Catholic schools who formed the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Multi Academy Trust. We are still our own unique individual school - but in the next few years will be part of a larger Catholic family of schools working together. The Bishop’s vision for education is that all Catholic schools in the Lancaster Diocese will be part of Catholic Multi Academy Trusts by 2026.

Headteacher's Welcome

I wanted to take a moment to share how incredibly proud I am to be the Headteacher of St Bernard’s. It is an absolute privilege to lead such a vibrant and caring school community, where the journey we’ve begun together is one I am excited to continue.

At the heart of our school is a hugely committed team, passionate about providing children with exciting, creative, and meaningful learning experiences. We aim to spark enthusiasm, foster curiosity, and support every child’s growth in a wide variety of ways—academically, socially, and spiritually.

My goal is clear: to ensure that every child who attends St Bernard’s is happy, confident, and provided with every opportunity to be the very best they can be. We are rooted in our Catholic values, built on mutual respect, and strengthened through positive relationships at every level of the school.

I truly believe that working in close partnership with you—our parents and carers—is essential in helping our children thrive. When we work together, school becomes a place where children feel safe, valued, and inspired.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to all that we will achieve together.

Warmest regards,

Roy Turner

Our Values

St. Bernard’s is a Catholic school which seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ. We promote these values by our words and deeds, and Catholic doctrine and practice therefore permeates every aspect of the school’s activity. We provide a Catholic curriculum, which is broad and balanced, recognising that every pupil is unique and is created in the image of God (Gen 1:27).

Nursery Information

Our Nursery is situated in a classroom joining our reception classroom and has access to quality outdoor provision. The Nursery is based in its own designated area but works closely with our reception class. We think it is important that our Nursery children are incorporated into the daily life of the school.
